East Cobb neighborhoods grew up from the 1960s on, so many yards have mature trees, original patios and retaining walls that are reaching the end of their life. Replacing a failing wall or an old concrete slab is often the first step to a better backyard.

East Cobb is unincorporated, so Cobb County sets the rules. Retaining walls 30 inches and taller need a county permit and a design sealed by a Georgia-registered engineer, and the engineer certifies the finished wall. Near property lines, exposed walls are capped at 6 feet, and tiered walls must sit at least 5 feet apart. We bring in the engineer and handle the permit.

Fire pits are allowed year-round in Cobb with clean wood, an adult present and at least 25 feet from structures, even during the summer burn ban. We place the seating area to fit.
